"The Mandala"

Kaleb Happ

“To me, a mandala means unity and balance because from what I've seen of different mandalas, especially the sand mandalas, they show a few personal things about the person or people making them and then the things are brought together by reflecting. The principals I used were contrast, emphasis, and unity. The first principle of design I used was contrast shown by all of my background colors being mostly primary colors in the inner circle and then mostly secondary colors in the outer circle. The second principle of design I used was emphasis shown by having the middle circle be separated from the two other circles surrounding it with a black circle. The third principle of design I used was unity shown by having my middle circle reflect radially unlike the other reflections in the rest of my mandala, so my d20 would be connected on both sides without a gap. I believe this design reflect on me as a person with all my symbolic shapes, I like fantasy so I used a sword and a potion, I like sci-fi so I used a raygun and a gas giant, I like music so I used a treble clef and an ocarina, and finally I used a clapboard and a fractal for all the random things I like. I want the viewer to notice my d20 in the middle because I tried to make it stand out from everything else by sectioning it off by a black border and making it radially symmetrical.”
